Food & Drink Knowledge Transfer Space

Food & Drink Knowledge Transfer Space , Edinburgh

  • Client: Queen Margaret University
  • Summary: Alterations to Existing Rooms To Form Research & Laboratory Facilities
  • Location: Edinburgh

The project involved alterations to existing teaching and research laboratories, the formation of a white room, the design and formation of tasting booths and associated kitchen. The accommodation was formed by altering existing accommodation at third floor level within the main building of the campus. New areas were formed by combining and sub-dividing existing areas and re-configuration of space. Lengthy discussions were necessary in the early stages of the design to ensure that the proposed areas tied together satisfactorily and would be fit for purpose. The challenges related to the supply and alteration of services and existing internal elevations and ceiling plans were prepared which were fundamental in assessing the downtakings. Care was taken in the design to ensure that the fire strategy of the building was not compromised. Working within a live environment during term time was necessary therefore additional care was essential to ensure limited disruption to staff and students.
