Buccleuch Free Church

Buccleuch Free Church, West Crosscauseway, Edinburgh

  • Client: Buccleuch & Greyfriars Free Church of Scotland
  • Summary: Alterations To A Listed Church
  • Location: West Crosscauseway, Edinburgh

The project involved various alterations within an existing A listed Church in Edinburgh, which included sub division of an inner hall, formation of an upper room at mezzanine level, formation of a vestibule, alteration to form additional toilet facilities and alterations to the stage to provide disabled access and connect with the congregation. All of the alterations were carefully considered and sympathetically carried out. The inspiration for the inner vestibule was drawn from the gothic arched entrance doors, the stage was altered using old disused pews and the decorative screens to the front stage were altered and re-used. The same theme was used for the ramp to the stage. Lighting was used to good effect to brighten the entrance area
