Lochhouses, Dunbar

  • Summary: Extension to A Listed Farmhouse
  • Location: Dunbar

This project involved forming an extension to the side of an existing Category A listed farmhouse. The new extension replaced a 1960's extension which had come to the end of its life. It was cold and leaky and costly to heat. The materials used matched the existing house. We managed to source black limestone to match the black stone of the front of the house. The grey sandstone window surrounds unified the composition and red sandstone to the rear matched the red sandstone of the rear of the existing house. Reclaimed roof slates and traditional sash and case timber windows also added to the overall effect. The accommodation provided was for a large family kitchen with dining area. The extension is bathed in light with the windows to all sides and the conservatory style section to the front.
