Burgess Terrace

Burgess Terrace, Edinburgh

  • Summary: Alterations & Extension to Victorian Villa
  • Location: Edinburgh

This semi detached Victorian dwelling within the South Side of Edinburgh was extended to the side of the dwelling over 2 storeys.  It was important to use traditional stonework to match the existing dwelling. The accommodation comprised of a master bedroom at the upper level and a living space off the existing kitchen at lower level. The garden was private opening up towards the corner. Windows and doors were orientated towards the corner. The junction between the slate and the wall at eaves and verge was flush as we didn’t want to use timber soffits or fascias. A small eyebrow window was incorporated to the front echoing a detail to the main dwelling. Internally solid hardwood floor and underfloor heating combined with shadow gap detailing and a spacious high ceiling gave a contemporary feel and a crisp finish. The roof is asymmetrical giving an emphasis to the rear but matching the main dwelling respectfully to the front
